(Dictionary of Names)

Incas

'Inca' was the name given to a royal house that ruled over many other tribes in Central America before the arrival of the Spaniards. Despite not having utilised the wheel for any practical purpose (probably due to the mountainous terrain), they had an extensive civilisation whose ways were largely superseded by those of the invaders, as were their names, although some exist as surnames. Names usually took the form of slogans or meaningful phrases such as 'Sayri Tupac' - 'Royal Serpent' (one of the Inca Princes).
